Woodward 201 – .750″-20 Spline
The Woodward 201 connection uses Woodward’s .750″-20 spline profile and is used throughout the Woodward professional steering component range.
Correct spline identification is important. Nominal diameter and tooth count alone do not guarantee compatibility, as the actual spline geometry must also correspond.
A generic .750″-20 spline should therefore not automatically be assumed to fit a Woodward 201 connection.
Woodward 104 – .820″-36 Spline
The second side of the UA201104 features the Woodward 104 spline, with a nominal diameter of .820″ and 36 teeth.
This configuration allows a component using the Woodward 201 profile to be connected directly to a steering shaft or component with the corresponding 104 spline profile, eliminating the need for a separate spline adapter.
Always verify diameter, spline count and spline profile when selecting a steering U-joint.

Operating Angle
The Woodward UA201104 permits angular misalignment up to 32 degrees. For normal steering operation, Woodward recommends keeping the working angle below 20 degrees.
A smaller operating angle reduces angular velocity variation through the universal joint and helps maintain smooth and consistent steering response.
Where packaging requires a larger change in steering shaft direction, using two correctly phased U-joints and an intermediate shaft can provide a better solution than operating a single joint close to its maximum angle.
